The Truth About Trees: Debunking the Conspiracy Theory About Extinct Giant Trees

Bandung – Conspiracy theorists do not believe in the existence of trees. According to them, the trees that exist now are just bushes, because the ‘real’ trees have become extinct.

For them, the trees that exist today are miniature versions of the giant trees 20 miles (32 km) high that once existed on Earth. According to Quartz, adherents of this conspiracy theory believe that a terrible disaster has destroyed the Earth’s biosphere, including its trees.

The remains of ‘real’ trees include Devils Tower in Wyoming, United States and at Uluru, Australia.

This understanding first emerged in a video uploaded to YouTube in 2016 entitled ‘There are no forests on Flat Earth Wake Up’. The original video has disappeared, including the account that uploaded it. However, there are still similar videos circulating on the internet.

However, William Thomson, an arborist, or specialist tree planter and caretaker, voiced the truth of this claim. According to him, this is the same as not believing in cats that exist today and saying that real cats are as big as the Sphinx statue in Egypt.

He emphasized that the trees in this world are genuine. The examples mentioned previously, Devils Tower and Uluru, are giant rocks, not the remains of trees.

“The video shows pictures of trees with geological features side by side, asking the viewer to see the differences and then explaining that you can’t, because the only difference is the material and size. The material and size are quite big differences,” he said .

Rather than believe in conspiracy theories that are not yet true, Thomson said something more important. Currently, many human activities are causing forest loss.

From 1800 to 2010, more than 2 billion hectares of forest have been lost. This results in more carbon being released into the atmosphere, as well as loss of habitat for a number of animals.
