The authorities are in turmoil. Faced with the rebound in the number of coronavirus cases, the risk of transmission in the air particularly worries the authorities.
Is the coronavirus transmissible in the air?
Since the start of the pandemic, one question has worried everyone. Can the virus actually pass through the air? In its opinion of 14 August, the High Council for Public Health (HCSP) mentions the possibility that suspended microdroplets can transmit the virus.
“Unlike SARS in 2003, Sars-Cov-2 is present in the throat. Speaking, shouting or singing, contaminated people can emit microparticles which are found in the air at such a concentration that they could be infectious ”, judge Arnaut Fontanet, epidemiologist and member of the Scientific Council.
This situation is increasingly worrying the authorities, in particular in the face of the rebound in cases of coronavirus contamination. So the government comes from make the mask compulsory in business.
Wearing the mask in confined spaces is the best precaution
The HCSP also indicates thatan “airborne transmission of the virus must be considered” in confined spaces which are not sufficiently ventilated. This transmission can operate depending on factors such as temperature and humidity, the physical practices provided in confined spaces and the airflow and ventilation of the spaces.
Therefore, the High Council recommends wearing a mask in confined collective spaces, but also outside in the event of a dense gathering.
However, many gray areas persist. In particular on the question of the frequency with which “the microdroplets really contain infectious virus, and for how long the latter can remain suspended in the air“, Emphasizes Arnaut Fontanet.
