The study shows that in Latvia 32% of the population want to work remotely / Day

The biggest supporters of teleworking are those who have already worked remotely during this crisis (62%), people aged 18-39, middle- and high-income people, with higher education, managers (40%), skilled professionals (38%) and the self-employed (51%).

The study found that after the crisis, people living in Riga (39%) and Pieriga (36%) want to work remotely more. In Vidzeme, 30% of residents express a desire to work remotely, in Latgale – 27%, in Zemgale – 25%, but the least in Kurzeme – 24%.

Anthropologist of economics Andris Šuvajevs commented that the results of the research reveal that working remotely is a certain privilege and available to representatives of very specific social groups, including the Latvian middle class.

“This makes it necessary to assess not only the specifics of these jobs and how the conditions of the pandemic may change the dynamics of the work environment, but also to keep in mind all those jobs that can not be ‘removed’. As we have seen, This observation should stimulate a general discussion about which works are valued higher – both morally and monetaryly, “said Shuvayev.

Tele2 HR manager Aija Bite-Ozere pointed out that the Covid-19 pandemic crisis is likely to have a greater impact in the long run. If before the crisis many did not really think about the possibility of working remotely, then life actually forced it and, as it turns out, a large number of people want to continue working remotely. This will be a new challenge for companies – how to organize their internal work processes in the future, how to be productive in the long run, how to balance the wishes of the company and employees.

In order to find out how the skills of the population have changed in the emergency situation in Latvia, Tele2 performed # stay at home population experience research in collaboration with Norstat, and was attended by 1,011 respondents.
