The struggle of a single mother to raise a child to become the most Tajur in the world

Jakarta

Many mothers are willing to fight for the success of their baby. One great mother who does everything for her baby is Jacklyn Bezos.

Jacklyn is the mother of the richest person in the world, Jeff Bezos. Amazon’s CEO has been listed three times in a row Forbes as the richest person in the world.

Forbes this year, Jeff again puts him in the position of champion list of the richest people on earth, Mother. In April 2020, his total wealth reached USD138 billion or around Rp2,150 trillion.

But who would have thought if he was born from a mother with a life that is not easy. His father and mother were married when they were teenagers.

Jacklyn was pregnant with Jeff when he was in high school. The school where he sought knowledge forbade Jacklyn from continuing school, but he fought diligently so that his education did not break up in the middle of the road.

“That (forbidding to school) didn’t make sense to me, so I insisted and finally the school relented. They allowed me to go to school but with some strict rules,” he said, quoted from CNBC.

The rules are quite heavy, such as having to come and go home 5 minutes before the bell comes and goes back to ring, it is forbidden to talk with other students and eat in the canteen. In addition, it is not permitted to come forward when graduating. Even so, he chose to hold on to completion.

Jacklyn gave birth to his son at the age of 17 in January 1964 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. When Jeff was 17 months old, Jacklyn divorced from her husband, Ted Jorgensen.

As a single mother raising a child, she finally found a job as a secretary to make ends meet. Jacklyn had to take secretarial classes in the afternoon to support his profession.

He admitted that although he was a bad typist at the time, there were good people who employed him. At that time, he was paid USD 190 per month. From this money, he and his son can rent an apartment, but cannot pay for other needs, such as the telephone.

Not satisfied with just graduating from high school, Jacklyn was determined to continue schooling for the future of himself and Jeff. While working, he enrolled in an evening lecture that allowed bringing babies into class.

After successfully getting the right campus, Jacklyn’s struggle was not easy. That’s because he not only brought textbooks but also baby equipment while in college.

“I will come with a baby and two backpacks. One full of books and the other with diapers, bottles and baby toys,” he said.

Now in college, she met her future husband, Mike Bezos, who is a refugee from Cuba. When Jeff was 4 years old, they married.

But the marriage made Jacklyn dropped out of college because he had to join Mike in moving to work. His dream of graduating from college was delayed for years.

That desire was only realized when Jeff was in college. Jacklyn returned to college after 20 years of high school graduation. And he successfully graduated from Saint Elizabeth at the age of 40 years.

Jeff himself felt the struggle of his beloved mother’s life while raising him. But Jacklyn’s struggle to bring Jeff into a successful person does not stop there. When Jeff was an adult, he even gave up his savings for his son’s capital to establish Amazon and eventually became an e-commerce giant and made Jeff Bezos the richest man in the world.
