The story surrounding the hacking of the Rockstar Games studio may be as interesting as the game itself. Last September, more than a year before GTA VI was officially announced, leaked from the game in progress 90 videos recording about 50 minutes of gameplay and other demos. The content was genuine, which was confirmed by journalist Jason Schreier’s sources at the time, but later admitted by Rockstar Games and publisher Take-Two Interactive.
Just a few days later the perpetrator was also found, it was about 17-year-old Englishman Arion Kurtaj, going by the alias White, who was supposed to be an important representative of the hacker group Lapsus$. In the past, it has already successfully penetrated the servers of the Brazilian Ministry of Health, but it has also attacked Microsoft, Nvidia, Samsung, Ubisoft and the American T-Mobile.
In March 2022, the London police arrested seven people between the ages of 16 and 21 in connection with previous hacks. Among them was Kurtaje, who had a total of 12 criminal offenses related to cyber attacks, fraud and blackmail. According to psychiatrists, Kurtaj is autistic and was not fit to participate in the trial at the time, so instead of passing a sentence, the only question that should have been temporarily resolved was whether the attacks were really worth it.

Kurtaj was released from custody on bail and the police placed him in a hotel where they were supposed to supervise him. She confiscated his laptop, but Kurtaj was able to hack Rockstar Games, Uber, and Revolut using a TV, an Amazon Fire Stick streaming device, and a procured smartphone, keyboard, and mouse.
The hacker went to prison again, where, according to the police, he subsequently committed several dozen incidents – destroying property and injuring fellow inmates. His mental state is so disturbed that it was decided this week to send Kurtaj to a hospital for life, or until doctors determine that he is no longer a threat to the community.
His lawyer said during the court hearing that the impact of the hacks was not that extensive, according to the BBC. The announcement of GTA VI still caused a huge stir and the released trailer broke several records. However, the judge reminded that Kurtaj was also responsible for several other incidents that caused great damage. The Rockstar Games studio, for example, calculated that the attack cost it five million dollars.
