The SRS stops drug smuggling, which was coordinated from prison in Latvia

Officials of the Tax and Customs Police of the State Revenue Service (SRS) have suspended the operation of a drug smuggling group coordinated from the prison.

The Service pointed out that the employees of the SRS Tax and Customs Police Department, checking the information at its disposal, established the activities of a group of persons who may have smuggled and sold precursors of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.

The activities of the criminal group were coordinated by two prisoners who are currently serving their sentences for crimes of a similar nature.

Within the framework of the initiated criminal proceedings, the employees of the SRS Tax and Customs Police Department conducted several searches in the residences and places of imprisonment of the persons involved in Riga, Jelgava, Saulkrasti and Daugavpils.

During the search, several grams of the drug, possibly containing carfentanil, 60 “Clonazepam” tablets, syringes, scales, cash in the amount of 1950 euros, as well as notebooks, mobile phones and SIM cards, were found and analyzed in the future pre-trial proceedings. during the investigation.

All seized narcotic and psychotropic substances have been assigned an examination.

Three persons were detained during the criminal proceedings. They are subject to a non-custodial security measure.

In connection with the activities of a group of persons, the SRS Tax and Customs Police Board has initiated criminal proceedings pursuant to Section 190.1, Paragraph three and Section 253.1, Paragraph three of the Criminal Law.
