The solidarity insurance fund donates almost 4 million euros to the Food Banks

Spanish insurance, through its solidarity fund, continues to finance social projects to try to alleviate the economic consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic. Through the program ‘Be Prepared (to be safer)’, the sector just donate 3.8 million euros to Spanish Federation of Food Banks (Fesbal) and its 54 associated Food Banks.

With this amount, it is estimated that the different Food Banks will be able to acquire up to 3.6 million kilos of food and other essential products, the equivalent of 14.3 million servings. And it is calculated that they may benefit a total of 5,311 families scattered throughout the country. The donation has been made Unespa on behalf of the 107 insurers that are part of this initiative.

“We have decided to collaborate with Fesbal because of its long history and experience in caring for vulnerable groups. Its structure makes it possible for the donation we announce today to reach families throughout the Spanish geography. It is essential that no one is left behind because of the social and economic crisis caused by Covid-19. The insurance desire is that we get out of this together, as a cohesive society. That we can face the future with security and confidence, “he said. Pilar Gonzlez de Frutos, president of Unespa.

For its part, Miguel Fernndez, director of Fesbal, has underlined: “The health crisis derived from Covid-19 has left serious economic and social consequences. The year 2021 is advancing and, although the health situation has improved, the demand for food aid and basic necessities persists. Food Banks associates have been facing an unprecedented situation. For this reason, we are especially grateful to Unespa as well as to the 107 insurers that have joined with this solidarity initiative. Because only together we will ensure that no one is left behind. Our greatest responsibility is to ensure that the most vulnerable people have covered one of the basic needs of the human being: food “.

These 3.8 million come from the 28 million euros that were not consumed from the fund created by 107 insurers to protect social and health personnel for 12 months through Life insurance with subsidy for hospitalization.
