The “sky war” can be shocking for dogs, so you can protect your pet!

The characteristic hissing, crackling sound of fireworks and firecrackers will fill the hours of the coming evenings and nights. For many New Year’s Eve revelers, this kind of “sky war” is the real celebration, not really caring that it is downright unpleasant for others. Not to mention our four-legged companions: a significant number of cats and dogs are practically in a state of shock at this time – read on our companion page, the teol.hu-n.

“Fireworks, although I acknowledge their spectacular nature, are an environment-damaging phenomenon,” emphasized Szilvia Fiáth. – Missile charges falling back to the ground, which have not yet been extinguished, have already caused fire damage in many cases. The sound effect can be alarming and frightening for small children, and the elderly and sick cannot rest in the midst of such cannon fire. Setting off firecrackers is prohibited in principle, and selling, possessing, and using firecrackers is an act that violates the law. Anyone who sees or hears the use of such equipment somewhere has the right to notify the police.

The head of the Szekszárd Dog Shelter also said that dogs and cats perceive the sound of fireworks and firecrackers much more strongly than humans, thanks to their sophisticated hearing. For this reason, noises can cause shock and seizures in unsuspecting four-legged animals. After the mentioned, noisy forms of New Year’s farewell cannot be eliminated, therefore the responsible pet owners must prepare now, days before New Year’s Eve, to create safe conditions for their pets, or at least prevent them from running away.

– It is advisable for the owners to take their animals to a closed place during the evening hours of these days – Szilvia Fiáth continued. – The most suitable for this is the shed, the summer kitchen, the garage, i.e. a room from which the animal cannot break out and harm itself or others. It has happened more than once that a dog that was not locked up after hearing the “shelling” went into a state of unconsciousness, ran away into the world and either disappeared forever, or was just hit by a car. It is one of the luckier cases if it turns up after days. I also recommend that owners administer sedatives to their particularly sensitive dogs. This should be done with the help of a veterinarian, because only a specialist can determine what dose an individual animal needs.

On the last day of the new year, the owners of the cats and dogs kept in the apartment should never go for a long walk in the evening, but preferably in the morning or in the morning, when the noise level is minimal. It is worth pulling down the blinds in the evening and looking for a soft song on the radio or TV. By the way, the four-legged pets kept in the apartment like the center of the living room, but even more so the inviting bathroom with the smell of water. It’s not a bad thing if cats or dogs poop under the sink.

Although it is forbidden to keep dogs – and many other animals – on a leash, many people also ignore this regulation. The head of the shelter had already witnessed a tragic situation, when the tethered dog, startled by the bangs, jumped over the fence and got stuck there. They could only take it off the chain once it had expired. Knowing all this, it is therefore advisable to place such an animal worthy of a better fate in the barn, for example, and lock it there, at least for this night.

The microchip is the standard equipment of the eb

A microchip is standard equipment for responsible pet owners, and care must be taken to ensure that the registration is up-to-date. Szilvia Fiáth is online for the purpose of checking the existence of the registration petvetdata.hu recommended a website to the attention of those concerned: here you can check whether the chip is OK without a code. In Szekszárd, the Mol well in Csátár operates 24 hours a day, has a microchip scanner, and the staff working here can obtain the owner’s data from the veterinarians who help out as volunteers.

In addition, it can be particularly useful if a plastic ticket on the animal’s collar shows the phone number at which the owner can be notified. This accessory does not even cost a hundred forints, and it is worth that much to get the stray and captured animal back to its owner as soon as possible.
