The shared garden has taken root in the Pierre-Leroux district in Montluçon (Allier)

Created in 2019, in the district of Pierre-Leroux, in Montluçon (Allier), the shared garden desired for the Political Service of the city of Montluçon Community, launched its new and third season, Monday March 1.

Old and new members meet

For this first day, the shared garden rustled reunions between participants under the rays of a beautiful winter sun. Regulars from the very beginning like Bernard and Didier proudly presented their vegetable garden to the newcomers of this third season. Among these new members Claudette, a resident of downtown Montluçon accompanied by her daughter Isabelle.

I live in an apartment, but I have lived in the countryside for fifty years. It gives me pleasure to find the land again. I’m not saying I’ll dig every day, but I’ll be able to lend a hand with no problem

Desires for nature rediscovered with confinement

Arriving from Bien-Assis, Mokrane and Kaissa also have a desire for the countryside. “Containment has been a good lesson. We want to go out to do some gardening. We are mountain people (the couple is from Algeria Editor’s note) who love nature, ”summarizes Mokrane.

A link between the district and the rest of the city, even the agglomeration

The participation of residents of neighborhoods other than Pierre-Leroux, and even municipalities other than Montluçon, has marked the project since its creation in 2019.

We are in the very objective of the project, which is to create social links in Pierre-Leroux but also with other districts because Pierre-Leroux is a bit landlocked

A space for discussion since 2019

For three years, the 700 m2 of the shared garden – a former football field – have been a space for exchanges and meetings. Participants come to discover other methods and meet new people or enrich their production, like Bernard, a Domératois.

I only have a small garden of 40 m2 where I grow tomatoes, carrots and radishes. The shared garden allows me to expand my production area. I planted the onions and garlic last fall. There is a great atmosphere here. We collect on Friday and we share the harvest at that time

About twenty registrants free from their comings and goings

The twenty or so registered participants benefit from the support and advice of Ali Seddedki, facilitator, three mornings a week. They can also come on their own at any time of the day. Members have a code allowing them to retrieve the key to the garden when they wish.

Bernard, a member from the start, presents the garden to Claudette, a new participant from downtown Montluçon.

Members present even during confinement

During confinement, this freedom has been beneficial for both gardeners and the garden. Several people used their certificate to come and garden for an hour.

At the end of the day, Fatima and Loutfati, two residents of Pierre-Leroux, watered the plantations. The two women are also quite proud of their productions. “The potatoes, zucchini, melons and tomatoes had grown really well. On the other hand, the salads were not very nice because we had them too tight. “

Totally organic crops

In addition to fruits and vegetables grown without any pesticides, ornamental flower onions were ordered this year by the Montluçon community at the request of participants. Others, owning gardens, transplant or take cuttings at home to supply the shared garden with seeds and seeds.
