The Covid-19 vaccination program has even been running seven months after it was initiated on January 13, 2021. The injection of the Sinovac vaccine into President Joko Widodo’s left arm at that time marked the nation’s struggle against the virus that has plagued the country since March 2020.

According to data from the Ministry of Health as of August 12 at 12.00 WIB, the first dose of Covid-19 vaccination has been given to 25.26 percent of the target and half have received the second dose of vaccine. That is, the journey has been taken a quarter of the way during these seven months.

The vaccine recipient group was divided into five categories. In the first and second vaccine stages, vaccines are administered in parallel to three categories, namely health workers, public officials, and the elderly (elderly).

The vaccination target for the three groups is 40.35 million people. The achievement of a complete vaccine for health workers has exceeded the target, which is 100.1 percent. A total of 10,923 health workers outside the target have also received the second dose of vaccine. For public officials, the second dose of vaccine has also reached the target, which reached 85.67 percent. Meanwhile, the elderly group still reached 15.7 percent.

Now, vaccination has entered the third phase with the expansion of vaccine targets in two groups, namely the general public and children aged 12 to 17 years. The total target of this group is 167.92 million people.

The rate of vaccination in the two new groups is fairly rapid in the midst of a large number of targets. One and a half months since it was set as the target of the vaccine, the achievement of the second dose in the general public has reached 5.5 percent and in children aged 12-17 years it has reached 1.88 percent.

The results of a Kompas poll last July, the majority of respondents (75.6 percent) stated that the government had been good at running this vaccination program.

In the midst of such a huge goal, the third stage of vaccination also bears a double burden. The third stage needs to help accelerate the administration of vaccines to the elderly group whose achievements are still very low.

Vaccination rate

The national target, which was originally 70 percent of the total population or around 181 million people, has now increased to 208,265,720 people. Optimism to achieve national immunity also continues to thicken when efforts to accelerate vaccines show results.

The provision of national vaccines, which had been stuttered at the beginning of the program, is now able to be carried out more massively. The first month of the vaccination program was only able to give injections to 539,000 people or 0.26 percent of the target. Meanwhile, at the end of February, only 1.87 million or 0.9 percent of the target received the first dose of vaccine.

Acceleration of vaccination began to appear from a significant increase in June. According to processed data downloaded from the Ministry of Health on August 10, 2021, it was recorded that the achievement of the first dose of vaccine at the end of June was 30.45 million people or 14.62 percent of the target. This number has almost doubled from the achievement at the end of May. By the end of July, the target had been reached at 48.04 million people with 23.07 percent of the target.

At the provincial level, the pursuit of vaccination targets is centered in Java and Bali. Bali itself is a province with accelerated vaccine delivery achievements. Bali was able to quickly outpace the pre-eminent provinces such as DI Yogyakarta and Banten. As of August 10, 2021, Bali has reached 90.95 percent of the target and is in second place after DKI Jakarta.

Provinces outside Java and Bali that showed good vaccination performance were the Riau Islands with 67.82 percent of the target. Likewise, North Sulawesi and Jambi with achievements above 25 percent exceeded the national achievement.

Almost all provinces in Indonesia started vaccination programs simultaneously. According to data entered from each province, 33 provinces have recorded additional vaccinations. Only West Sulawesi started in early February. Although late, now West Sulawesi is in the middle standings in achieving the vaccination target. It is recorded that the Covid-19 vaccination in this province has reached 17.32 percent.

Even so, the percentage of vaccine achievement in each province has not been evenly distributed. With the national achievement reaching a quarter of the target, only seven provinces are above the national average. Leaving 27 other provinces that have not touched a quarter. The five provinces with the lowest scores are Lampung, North Maluku, West Kalimantan, Papua, and Central Sulawesi.

Lampung has only reached 9.91 percent of the vaccination target or around 620,000 people. In fact, in the first month of vaccination, this province scored a big number with almost 33,000 people being vaccinated. A better start compared to other provinces which currently have surpassed.

However, the success of the vaccine acceleration has also been felt by the public. This can be seen from the results of the poll Compass last July which captured the public’s appreciation of the Covid-19 vaccination program. The majority of respondents (75.6 percent) stated that the government has been good in running this vaccination program. Eight percent of them even said it was very good.

In harmony, the success of the government’s performance in accelerating vaccination is also strengthened by the confidence of more than half of respondents in the poll (58.1 percent), who stated that they believed that the Covid-19 vaccination program could be achieved according to the target. Thus, national immunity will soon be formed and people can be safer in their activities.
