Last weekend Mugi took part in the MotoGP Valencia 2022. This year he flew several times to Europe and Asia to help manage the helmets of the MotoGP riders. Not only MotoGP, Mugi also deals with helmets for Moto3 and Moto2 riders. The helmet of the Moto2 2022 World Champion Augusto Fernandez, in fact, was also edited by Mugi.

In addition to protecting the driver’s head during an accident, a helmet can also be instrumental in victory. Mistakes on the helmet cause the rider to lose concentration, so it is difficult to achieve a victory. Therefore, Mugi’s task cannot be taken lightly. The comfort of the riders in wearing the helmet is Mugi’s responsibility.

“Especially the problem of size is very influential. Because it is too tight for a long time it hurts the head. Then if it is too wide they are uncomfortable, if it is hit by the wind it can slip, so it hits it while running,” Mugi told detikcom some time ago.

Before the race, Mugi visited each driver’s garage. He asked about the size of the helmet foam that fits the rider.

“Even if I already have the size (data) I ask anyway first. Because I don’t want him to have problems on the bike but it widens to the helmet,” said Mugi.

In each series, the riders usually return to fitting their helmets on the first day of the MotoGP session, which is Friday. Ensuring the size of the helmet according to Mugi is very important for the rider’s comfort. Sometimes the size of the helmet was determined at the beginning of the season, but there are riders who ask to increase the thickness of the helmet foam to fit it.

“There are runners who ask to add 5mm to the front or back of the head, I’m ready. So I have all spare parts ready. They can be handled on site. I bring spare parts. Sometimes (foam) on the right or front or top not fit, I added 10mm of foam or 20mm depending on the rider’s request, “explained Mugi.

It is not the first time that Mugi has managed a MotoGP rider’s helmet. From year to year Mugi is in charge of managing the KYT and Suomy helmets worn by the MotoGP riders.
