The second day of F1 testing belonged to Bottas, Hamilton finished off the track

British driver Lewis Hamilton also lagged behind the new Formula 1 season during the second test day. The seven-time world champion finished on Saturday off the track after a morning skid and set the 15th fastest time overall. The best driver of the day was his Mercedes Finn colleague Valtteri Bottas, on whom Hamilton lost over three seconds. The second was Pierre Gasly of Alpha Tauri and the third was Lance Stroll of Aston Martin.

The reigning world champion Hamilton followed up on an unconvincing Friday introduction, when he was tenth. Although Bottas drove 58 laps on the track, Mercedes still remains the worst team of all with 164 tested circuits. Sebastian Vettel, who solved problems with the transmission at Aston Martin and completed only 10 laps, also did not succeed.

This time, Nicholas Lafiti from Williams, who completed 132 laps, tested the most of all. Friday’s winner of the first test, Max Verstappen, did not hit the track with his Red Bull today.

Pre-season tests continue in Bahrain on Sunday. The F1 series will start at the same place on March 28.
