- 1559 – Lupercio Leonardo de Argensola, Spanish poet, playwright and historian;
- 1781 – Michele Benso of Cavour, Italian politician. He is the father of Camillo Benso di Cavour;
- 1909 – Symphony Sid, US disc jockey and radio host;
- 1979 – Michael Owen, former English footballer of Liverpool and Real Madrid. In the early years of his career he earned the nickname of ‘Golden Boy’ after winning the Ballon d’Or in 2001, at just 22 years old. In the following years, several injuries limited his performance. Impossible to forget the goal to Argentina at the 1998 World Cup, when he was just 19;
- 1982 – Elena Barolo, Italian showgirl, blogger and actress. She was velina at Striscia la Notizia from 2002 to 2004, together with Giorgia Palmas;

A young man of twenty called Adam Lanza opened fire inside the school, causing the death of 27 people, 20 of them children between 6 and 7 years old. Lanza decided to take his own life before the police arrived. He had previously killed his mother.
