The “Roja Small Cinema Holiday” starts today Freckles of life

The last weekend of July in Roja is usually dedicated to cinema. In the past, grandiose film festivals “RojaL” have taken place, but when “RojaL” is resting, movie lovers are offered eventful “Roja cinema holidays”.

Also this year, despite various restrictions, Roja will not be without cinema. For three days – from July 29 to 31 – the “Little Roja Film Festival” will take place on the Roja open-air stage. Concerts will take place every evening at 9.30 pm, waiting for the favorable darkness. These will be followed by talks and meetings with cinema people, followed by film screenings.

On Thursday, July 29, a “Retro Evening” is expected. First of all, singer Rūta Dūduma-Ķirse and musician Jānis Ķirsis will delight with popular songs in the 1970s. Then there will be a word for film critic and film scientist Dita Rietuma, who will talk about tonight’s film. And in the end – director Aliosis Brench’s 1973 detective film “Chess for the Queen of Diamonds” with a great bouquet of actors of that time – Lidija Freimanis, Uldis Dumpis, Lilita Ozoliņš, Gunārs Cilinskis and others.

An “Evening of Legends” is expected on Friday, July 30. Dambis from the legendary group “Inokentijs Mārpls” will take the stage. He is also one of the three characters in “We Wanted to Change the World.” Before the film there will be a conversation with its director Aija Bley.

Saturday night will be called “Veri Kūl” evening, and it will be introduced by the group “Rahu the Fool” concert. This will be followed by a meeting with the actor and participant of the evening film Andris Keišs. And it will be very exciting to watch the film “Kolka Cool” by director Juris Poškus, which was shot in the vicinity of Roja, 10 years after the premiere.

During the “Roja Small Cinema Holiday”, the territory of the Roja stage will be open to visitors without restrictions also during the day – from 12.00- 18.00.

There will be an exhibition of works by artist Maris Grosbach “Created in Roja”, dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the Blue Hope Pig of Roja Beach. Photographs from the films of the event will also be shown. Large games will be offered for family entertainment, and there will be a café in the area.

Admission is free, but visitors should note that admission to the evening events on presentation of a valid Covid-19 vaccination / disease certificate, negative 48 or 6h test, children under 12 years of age is admitted without the above.
