The risk of deflation continues to haunt Europe

Deflationary pressures have rarely been as strong as since the outbreak of Covid-19. This applies to many countries in the world and Switzerland is no exception. These pressures are “historic”, in the opinion of economists at the Edmond de Rothschild bank, who even see deflation in certain sectors.

An extreme example? That of energy in the euro zone, which showed a decline of nearly 10% over one year in the energy component of the consumer price index in April, quotes the chief economist of the Geneva establishment, Mathilde Lemoine, in a study published last month.
