Limburg / Dornburg (ots) – A foundation makes it possible to use one’s own assets for a good cause that is close to one’s heart – over generations. Reiner Schmidt from Dornburg near Limburg decided to take this path in order to intensify, professionalize and align his philanthropic commitment in the long term.

On February 22, 2022, the founding documents of the “Reiner Schmidt Libertas Foundation” were ceremonially signed in the 360 Grad restaurant in Limburg an der Lahn. This is run as a trust foundation endowed with EUR 100,000. Founder Reiner Schmidt chose Rheindorf Stiftungsmanagement GmbH as trustee, which takes care of the administration. The asset management Source For Alpha AG will manage the endowment capital of the Libertas Foundation.

As chairman of the board, Reiner Schmidt concentrates on realizing the purpose of the foundation: This includes education and infrastructure projects in developing countries as well as supporting youth work in his home town of Dornburg. Even before his foundation, the graduate engineer for raw materials and geotechnics donated over EUR 250,000 for humanitarian purposes. So far he has worked mainly in Rwanda and Uganda. With the planned children’s home in cooperation with the Bad Camberg artist Renate Menneke, he will also be active in India. In Dornburg he creates a sponsorship award for youth work. The call for applications will be made in the coming weeks.

In the medium term he would like to turn Libertas into an independent foundation. “As an entrepreneur, I want to live up to my social responsibility. The greatest happiness is in giving something back. With the foundation project, I am laying the foundation for this to be possible even after my death,” emphasizes Reiner Schmidt.

Reiner Meutsch, founder of the FLY & HELP Foundation and bearer of the Federal Cross of Merit reports: “Reiner is passionate about improving the lives of others in the long term. His cheerful nature motivates him to get involved as well. I congratulate him warmly on the Libertas Foundation and look forward to it everything that he will move with it.”

The non-profit status of the Reiner Schmidt Libertas Foundation has been applied for at the Giessen tax office. After the recognition, donation receipts for donations and endowments can be issued.

TO THE BACKGROUND

February 22, 2022 – a special founding day

Reiner Schmidt chose February 22, 2022 as the founding day not only because of the number game. Two is his lucky number and February 22 is also his birthday.

As a democrat, he also thinks of the execution of the Scholl siblings in 1943 on this date. “Such dark chapters in human history must not be repeated. Reiner Schmidt, the philanthropist from the Westerwald, lives and works according to his vision: “Leave this world a little better than you found it.”

A trip to rural Rwanda unleashed the commitment

Reiner Schmidt’s commitment to aid projects began in 2012 when his good friend Markus Buhr made him aware of the Reiner Meutsch Foundation FLY & HELP. He was immediately enthusiastic about the idea of collecting donations for building a school in Rwanda.

The Dornburg entrepreneur remembers his first delegation trip: “The honest and deep gratitude that was shown to us made a deep impression on me. Likewise the fact with which small means one can provide effective and sustainable help in Africa. Amounts that for are manageable for us, change the lives of many 100 children there – and that in the long term!”

After this formative experience, further aid projects followed, which Reiner Schmidt managed on his own and as an initiator in cooperation with others, eg with the Rotary Club Limburg and the Wirtschaftsjunioren Hessen eV: Schools, fountains and housing were created thanks to his commitment.
