The rates for tobacco under transitional aid are up to 5 times higher compared to last year – 2024-03-06 12:43:59

In the first year of implementation of the Strategic Plan, it turned out that producers decreased 5 times, and the amount of tobacco 3 times

By order of the Minister of Agriculture and Food, Kiril Vatev, who resigned, have been appointed the items for tobacco on the National transitional assistance for the 2023 campaign. The total amount of the budget under the scheme is BGN 71 million. It was approved at the last Tobacco Advisory Council, which was held on January 16, 2024.

The rates for 2023 are about three to five times higher than those announced for 2022 – see here

Producers of “Basmi” variety up to 2000 kg. will receive BGN 5.50/kg, and those with production over 2000 kg. at BGN 4.13/kg. (For 2022, the rates for “Basmi” were BGN 2.07 for up to 1000 kg; BGN 2.01 for 1000 to 2000 kg and BGN 1.34 for over 2000 kg.)

For the “Kaba Kulak” and “Burley” varieties, the specified rate is BGN 4.00/kg. (For 2022, the rate for the variety “Kaba Kulak” was 1.05 BGN, and for “Burley” 0.77 BGN.)

For the variety group “Virginia” it is BGN 3.00/kg. (For 2022, the rate was BGN 0.61)

The applicants for the 2023 scheme are 8,295, and the amount of tobacco produced is 17,049,140 kg.

(Last year it was reported that 50,028,490 kg were claimed by 40,281 farmers. This means that the amount of tobacco requested is almost 3 times less, and the producers have decreased almost 5 times.)

We remind you that from 2023 the new reference year for tobacco is 2016-2018 of choice.

The order was published on the official website of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food and the State Fund “Agriculture”. You can get acquainted with it here: https://www.mzh.government.bg/media/filer_public/2024/03/06/1709654204161_document1.pdf
