However, the golden blood type does not have the Rh antigen in their red blood cells at all. This condition is very rare. In fact, it is said that there are less than 50 people with the Rh-null blood type worldwide.

Even though having a rare blood type seems like something special, those with the Rh-null blood type have to live with various risks.

First, owners of the Rh-null blood type must maintain personal safety so that they do not need a blood transfusion. Because it is very rare, it is said that there are only 9 active donors for this blood type in the whole world. However, until now no clear data has been found regarding how many people have this blood type.

The Rh-null blood type also cannot receive blood transfusions from blood types that have the Rh antigen, because it can trigger a transfusion reaction. That is one of the reasons why the Rh-null blood type has a value equivalent to ‘gold’.

Owners of the Rh-null blood type also have a higher risk of developing mild to severe hemolytic anemia. Hemolytic anemia is a condition that causes red blood cells to break down quickly, thereby affecting hemoglobin levels in the blood. This disease makes sufferers feel extremely tired almost all the time.

For pregnant women who have the golden blood type, pregnancy is a very worrying time. If a woman with the Rh-null blood type has offspring with a man who has the normal blood type, there is a high possibility that the unborn baby will have an Rh positive blood type.

The mother’s immune system will consider this as a threat. As a result, the mother’s body will form antibodies which can attack the Rh antigen in the child’s blood and endanger the condition of the fetus.
