The province of Alicante expects, gradually, the reactivation of British tourism from Monday | Radio Alicante | Present

The hotel sector in the province of Alicante expects a greater movement of British tourism from this Monday after the relaxation of restrictions on mobility in the United Kingdom.

As of this October 4, the Government of Boris Johnson eliminates the obligation of the PCR test to enter the country for those people with the complete vaccination schedule, although they will have to perform an antigen test within 48 hours of arrival.

From the Benidorm and Costa Blanca employers’ association, HOSBEC, they assure that a certain upward movement is being noticed in the British reserves but they add that, in no case, can we speak of an “explosion” or “massive arrival” in the next days. Its general secretary, Nuria Montes, explains that, currently, English tourists represent more than 20% of the total, still far from pre-pandemic levels.

He assures that the bulk of British reserves is focused on next spring and summer, although he hopes to recover a large market share this autumn. Right now, there is 90% of the hotel plant open in Benidorm.

Nuria Montes warns, on the other hand, of the problems of shortage of reagents to carry out antigen tests in the United Kingdom. However, he believes that this may be a factor in favor since this shortage does not exist in Spain and tourists could buy this test here. He also believes that hotel establishments could be points where the tests would be facilitated to tourists.

For its part, from the Provincial Association of Hotels of Alicante, APHA, they trust that this lifting of restrictions will help tourists to travel with the feeling of more security and less bureaucracy.

Its president, Victoria Puche, believes that the British market and that of other nationalities such as Swedish, Dutch or Icelandic, will be essential to counteract the seasonality left by the national tourist.

“We are very happy that we can end another restrictive measure regarding the entry of tourists into their country with the obligation to do this PCR. It is less economic cost for them and above all it is a mental barrier that facilitates the fact that people Do not see it as difficult to travel again, psychologically it is very important “he highlights.

At the moment, and according to data provided by the Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport, this Monday there are 77 flights scheduled with the United Kingdom, a figure slightly higher than 75 this Sunday but lower than 99 on Saturday or 85 on Friday .

From Turisme de la Generalitat Valenciana, its general director, Herick Campos, points out that they have done their homework and that tourists perceive the destination as safe and that the Valencian Community also has an anti-Brexit plan.
