The State Attorney General’s Office continues to account for the number of criminal proceedings opened by its delegations throughout Spain for possible crimes related to the management of nursing homes during the covid-19 pandemic, which already exceed 220, one of them in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Madrid continues to be the community that accumulates the most investigations, a total of 104 to which we must add six procedures already opened by as many investigating courts.

According to this information, during the last week the filing of a total of five files of criminal investigation proceedings has been decreed – specifically, in the Provincial Prosecutor’s Offices of Guadalajara, Burgos, Prosecutor’s Office of the Autonomous Community of Extremadura, Cáceres, and La Rioja -, the latter for having agreed their judicialization. A total of 33 judicial bodies are already processing cases for possible criminal responsibility in these centers.

There is also evidence this week of the initiation of a total of twenty-one new investigation procedures, (five in the Barcelona Provincial Prosecutor’s Office, six in Madrid, two in the Alcalá de Henares Area Prosecutor’s Office, two in the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office of Cáceres, and one in the Public Prosecutor’s Offices of Gijón, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Albacete, Manresa-Igualada, La Rioja and Navarra.

After Madrid, Catalonia is still the Community with the highest number of open investigations, a total of 43, followed very far by the two Castiles, with a total of 24 files in Castilla-La Mancha and 20 in Castilla y León; after which Galicia is placed with 14 proceedings in progress and Extremadura with 6 cases of this type in the Public Ministry.

Behind these territories is Andalusia with 3 cases pending in the prosecutor’s offices, La Rioja with 2 files and the communities of Asturias, the Canary Islands, Navarra and Valencia, with a diligence being processed in each of them.

In Cantabria, the Balearic Islands and the Basque Country, there are no cases of criminal significance that are being studied by the Public Prosecutor’s Offices of those territories, while in Murcia there are no files in the Public Prosecutor’s Office, but there are three court cases already opened for alleged irregularities in these centers.
