The procurement of production equipment for the new biscuit and waffle factory of Selga has been completed

Confectionery manufacturer Orkla Biscuit Production has completed the purchase of equipment for the new production lines at Selga’s new biscuit and waffle factory in Ādaži, the company informed.

In total, the waffle and biscuit factory will have 13 production lines. The company has signed agreements with 12 suppliers in eight European countries for the purchase of new and semi-new production lines, as well as kitchen and raw material processing equipment. Most of the selected suppliers are related to Baltic subcontractors.

Covid-19 has created a lot of challenges, but we have also got opportunities. During the pandemic, we have successfully implemented a very scrupulous procurement procedure for the equipment of Selga’s new plant, approaching this process with particular care and extensive research. We conducted a multifaceted procurement process in which we reviewed offers in several countries to find the best solutions for the new plant. It is especially impressive that we did this work during the pandemic in Europe and were able to implement it within the set time and budget limits, ”explained Tom Didrihsons, Chairman of the Board of Orkla Biscuit Production and Orkla Latvija.

The company was informed that, despite the pandemic, the construction of the new Selga biscuit and waffle factory in Ādaži is proceeding safely and according to plan. In addition, in April 2021, the share capital of Orkla Biscuit Production was increased by EUR 10 million to a total of EUR 30 million.

As previously reported, Orkla Latvija’s parent company has decided to build another plant in Ādaži, next to Laima’s new plant, so there will already be seven Orkla plants in Latvia, three of which will be located in Ādaži. The new plant will specialize only in the production of biscuits and waffles and will be the largest of its kind in the Baltic States and Scandinavia. In addition to construction, significant investments in new equipment and production lines will follow, creating the largest investments in the Latvian food production sector in recent years, which will create about 250 new jobs. In total, about 75% of the products made in the factory will be exported. It is planned that the new plant will start operating in 2022.

In May 2020, a new company, SIA Orkla Biscuit Production, was established as part of a process to concentrate Orkla’s biscuit and waffle production in one location and to build a new plant in Ādaži. Consequently, the production of biscuits and waffles from Kungelva (Sweden) and Riga (Artilērijas Street) will be transferred to the new plant. These changes will be made by 2022 and 2023.

On September 25, 2020, the construction company Merks was selected as the builder of the new Orkla Biscuit Production biscuit and waffle factory.

The turnover of the Orkla Latvija group in 2019 was 85.21 million euros, which is 3.7% more than a year earlier, while the group’s profit decreased by 3.2% and was 2.807 million euros, according to Firmas.lv information . The Orkla Latvija Group includes Orkla Biscuit Production, SIA Saldumu prekyba and SIA Latfood Agro.

In Latvia, “Orkla” represents and develops “Laima”, “Selga”, “Staburadze”, “Ādažu Čipsi”, “Pedro”, “Spilva”, “Gutta”, “Everest”, “Latplanta” and other brands. The company is part of the Norwegian concern Orkla.-

  1. Hello!
Is Orkla factory has any interest of setting up factory and distribution in India? I have been worked in Orkla’s Selga factory in Riga. India has huge market for biscuits and chocolates, the best thing to be invested in India is finding best location(connectivity to major cities) to transport, and a huge place for best price.
I can provide you with all other details, please do call me if Orkla has any interest of setting up factory in India.
