The Principality advances the second dose of AstraZeneca for people between 60 and 69 years old | BE Gijón | Today for Today Gijón

Asturias has decided to join the path taken by other autonomous communities and has advanced the application of the second dose of AstraZeneca at ten weeks for the 60-69 age group. The decision was made after the Ministry of Health has guaranteed the supply of vials from the pharmacist. In the case of Asturias there are 103,000 people waiting. This has been confirmed by the general director of Public Health, Rafael Cofiño.

Could that period be lowered further? The truth is that the health authorities of Asturias reject it. The head of the Epidemiological Surveillance Service, Ismael Huerta, explained that with less than ten weeks, the vaccine “loses effectiveness”.

An issue that raises many citizens is what to do with the organization of the holidays since they are waiting to receive the call for the vaccination. Huerta has explained that he is in favor of delaying them since “you have to make a choice in life.”

Regarding the vaccination of students Before starting the next course, the Ministry has ensured that “probably” it will not be raised until the end of August. All in a day in which the cumulative incidence for 14 days per 100,000 inhabitants in Asturias has risen from 71.5 to 72.7 cases.
