This year, the participants of the conference will be addressed by the UN Secretary General Antoniu Gutērres, and the Prime Minister of Estonia Kaja Kallas, the President of Romania Klaus Johannis, will take part in the discussions. Due to the epidemiological situation of Covid-19, the conference will be mainly remote and can be followed live.

Since 2006, the Riga Conference has become one of the most important forums for security and foreign policy issues in the Baltic Sea Region. The conference provides an opportunity for stakeholders to identify current trends and engage in dialogue on global processes. The participants of the conference will discuss the most topical issues of foreign and security policy, such as the impact of the events in Afghanistan on international security, the rivalry between China and the United States, and the political situation in Belarus.

Topics such as the NATO 2030 agenda, the EU Green Course, regional and global security, data security and much more will also be discussed this year. In parallel with the conference’s framework program, five separate discussions are organized, discussing the role of women in restoring post-conflict stability, security in the Baltic Sea region, the topicality of the Three Seas Initiative, as well as other topics. The full conference program is available on the website.

Although several hundred conference participants and members of the media were originally scheduled to attend, the decision to significantly reduce the number of participants and to cancel any public gatherings, leaving only working discussions, led to a deterioration in the epidemiological situation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Only participants with an interoperable Covid-19 vaccination or disease certificate will come to the National Library of Latvia. Enhanced epidemiological safety measures will be followed. The general public will have the opportunity to follow the main program of the conference online on the Latvian and Youtube pages of the Latvian Transatlantic Organization, as well as live broadcasts of several Internet platforms and television in Latvian and international media.

The conference is organized by the “Latvian Transatlantic Organization” in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia and the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Latvia. The conference’s partner organizations are NATO’s Public Diplomacy Division and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in the Baltic States.
