Gathered by the lake in Auvernier, 200 to 300 youths attacked the police on Saturday evening when the police wanted to dislodge them. The crowd had taken up residence on the beach to party.
For security reasons, the police have given up intervening because it would have required a significant engagement of agents, announced our colleagues from RTN, this Sunday, on their site.
“They couldn’t think of anything better than going to the lake to get drunk. When the police patrols intervened, there were jets of bottles and food, ”said Georges-André Lozouet, communications officer for the Neuchâtel police. It was impossible for four agents to disperse such a crowd, he laments.
No prosecution
The police regret the reception given to him, especially since the containment measures linked to Covid-19 are far from over. “This situation will have to be assessed for the future,” added the communications officer. There will certainly be no prosecution since the troublemakers have not been identified.
