The police: cleared in Alfaset – no danger of explosion

– The situation has been clarified and roadblocks have been removed, Svein Bjelland, Oslo police leader, said on Thursday evening.

– We are confident that there are no leaks on the gas cylinders or damage to them, which means that there is a risk of leakage or explosion, he said shortly after the firefighters were inside the truck and examined the container with gas cylinders.

It was around 4.50pm on Thursday when police received a report of the incident inside the Alnabru terminal at Alfaset in Oslo. The first reports were that a truck had overturned and that the gas cylinders, which also contained acetylene, had moved inside the container.

While waiting for the situation to be clarified, a 300-metre safety zone was set up around the scene of the accident, because it was feared that the spill of the bottles would end in an uncontrolled explosion. Østre Aker vei was closed for a period, at the same time train traffic between Oslo S and Grorud was disrupted.

– Now we will start the big reopening work. It’s a big challenge. this is an important part of the logistics for goods in Eastern Norway. It will likely take some time to normalize operations at the terminal, Bjelland says.
