The plans for a new Blackberry mobile with 5g seem to be scrapped

The startup Onward Mobility’s plans to release a new Blackberry mobile have been discontinued, according to information Crackberry and Android Police.

The new version of the iconic keyboard mobile promised both 5g connectivity and improved security. The idea was originally that it would be released in North America and Europe during the first half of 2021.

According to Android Police, Onward Mobility’s license to use the Blackberry brand has now been terminated and Blackberry’s CEO, John Chen, is said to be reluctant to use the name for a new smartphone. Blackberry itself stopped making mobiles in 2016 and now focuses on cyber security and business services.

Whether Onward Mobility’s mobile can thus still be released under a different name is unclear. The startup has not yet commented on the information.
