TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Perseid meteor shower will reach its peak in the early hours of this morning, Thursday 12 August 2021. There are several reasons to look forward to it.
Pertama, hujan meteor ini adalah yang memberi pemandangan terbaik setiap tahunnya karena tergolong yang paling banyak lesatannya. Kedua, pada tahun ini bulan jauh dari fase purnama sehingga mengurangi polusi cahaya dan menambah 'resolusi' pemandangan langit. Hujan meteor ini juga bisa dinikmati dari bagian manapun di dunia, termasuk Indonesia.
Sesuai dengan namanya, hujan meteor Perseid akan tampak muncul dari posisi rasi bintang Perseus. Waktu terbit Perseus pada tengah malam yaitu pukul 00.18 WIB dari arah timur laut. Ada juga yang mengatakan sekitar pukul 02.00 WIB.
Tidak masalah kalau tidak tahu persis lokasi rasi bintang itu. Tinggal berbaring saja menghadap langit, dan pada puncaknya nanti akan ada hingga 150 meteor per jam yang bisa diamati. Dengan catatan, langit cerah tanpa awan serta minim polusi cahaya.
