The pandemic in New York told in pictures and figures

The pandemic due to the new coronavirus has killed at least 260,546 people around the world since its appearance in December in China, according to figures released by the benchmark Johns Hopkins University.

More than 3,710,240 cases of infection have been officially diagnosed in 195 countries and territories since the start of the epidemic. This number of cases diagnosed, however, reflects only a fraction of the actual number of infections, with a large number of countries only testing cases requiring hospital treatment. Of these cases, at least 1,153,300 are now considered cured.

The United States is the most affected country in terms of both deaths and cases, with 73,431 deaths for 1.22 million cases, while Europe is the most bereaved continent with more than 150,000 deaths. In the country of Uncle Sam, the city of New York, because of its density but also because of the fact that it is the most visited city in the country with, before the break decreed by Governor Cuomo in mid-March , international flights arriving from all over the world, very quickly became the epicenter of the pandemic.

To date, the city that never slept has 178,351 confirmed cases of covid-19 and 19,174 people have lost their lives from the new disease.

We tell you New York in pictures, through the eyes of photographer Rosannah Ferrier. A city emptied of its tumult, a city where, as elsewhere in the world, the wearing of a mask is required. A city where, according to the images, men risk more in the streets than women

About Rosannah Ferrier :

« I have been passionate about photography since I was little and I started photography in middle school when my parents gave me my first camera. I learned at the beginning with a reflex (CANON) then with my father’s old film (Nikon F301). Today I alternate between film and digital photography (Sony alpha7III). After high school, I did a bachelor’s degree in information and communication specializing in audiovisual journalism in Angers. In the last year of my bachelor’s degree I mainly turned to video and I learned the basics of reporting / interviewing …

Following this, I joined a film school (ESRA) in Paris where I specialized in the IMAGE section (camera and light) in order to become director of photography / assistant camera / cameraman for fictions / clips / ads. Since September I have been doing my fourth and final year in exchange at a film and acting school (Stonestreet Studio) in New York where I was able to work as an op / cameraman / electro chief or even a camera assistant on a certain number of projects such as short films, clips, series… etc ”.
