The pandemic due to the new coronavirus has killed at least 260,546 people around the world since its appearance in December in China, according to figures released by the benchmark Johns Hopkins University.
More than 3,710,240 cases of infection have been officially diagnosed in 195 countries and territories since the start of the epidemic. This number of cases diagnosed, however, reflects only a fraction of the actual number of infections, with a large number of countries only testing cases requiring hospital treatment. Of these cases, at least 1,153,300 are now considered cured.
The United States is the most affected country in terms of both deaths and cases, with 73,431 deaths for 1.22 million cases, while Europe is the most bereaved continent with more than 150,000 deaths. In the country of Uncle Sam, the city of New York, because of its density but also because of the fact that it is the most visited city in the country with, before the break decreed by Governor Cuomo in mid-March , international flights arriving from all over the world, very quickly became the epicenter of the pandemic.
To date, the city that never slept has 178,351 confirmed cases of covid-19 and 19,174 people have lost their lives from the new disease.
