The Palau de la Música has installed perimeter and top panels at the Main Theater for improve acoustics. In this way, the public attending the concert next Friday by the Orquesta de València, conducted by the Portuguese maestro Nuno Coelho and with the presence of the pianist Jan Lisiecki, “will be able to listen to the Piano Concerto No. 2 by Frédéric Chopin, Symphony No. 2 by Finn Jean Sibelius and Symphony No. 1 “Oriental” by Josep Pons, and experience this remarkable improvement,” the agency reported.

The adaptation of the Principal

The installation of the panels has been carried out in two phases. The first consisted of the placement of perimeter acoustic panels, with a trapezoidal shape, made up of three sections: the one behind, 15 m long, and two sides, 9 m each. They are made up of 1.5m x 2.5m panels of 10mm thick polycarbonate supported by 40mm aluminum frames, supported on legs, allowing easy assembly and movement.

Regarding the second phase, it responds to the placement of upper acoustic panels, made up of 11 plywood panels 10 mm thick and with dimensions of 1.22 mx 2.5 m, suspended, by means of steel cables, from the rods of the theater. They are placed in two sections: a rear one made up of five panels and a length of 12 m, with separations of 1.5 m. Another rear with six panels and a length of 14 m and a separation of 1.3 m. In total, a surface of 33.55 m² of reflective material. Both sections are separated from each other at a distance of 75 cm, which allows the lighting rods of the theater to be used.

These removable acoustic panels, Tello pointed out, “are elements that the Palau de la Música will be able to reuse tomorrow, in other concerts and also in those that take place outdoors”. This acoustic improvement has involved an investment of €18,365 by the Palau de la Música.

For his part, the director of the Palau de la Música, Vicent Ros, highlighted that this improvement in the Principal, “has been progressive, carefully studying how to resolve the various factors that prevented a correct hearing of our subscription concerts, both for our audience as well as for the teachers when it comes to listening to each other and interacting”. In addition, Ros has added that “we are studying the implementation of more panels to fully cover the upper part, and soon achieve the optimum acoustic level that we want”.
