The number of positive corona tests seems to have reached a ceiling for the time being. Between Sunday morning and Monday morning, 21,552 new cases were registered. It is the fourteenth day in a row that just over 20,000 infections have come to light.
The fact that the number of positive tests is barely increasing does not mean that the peak in the number of infections has been reached. The GGDs are approaching their maximum capacity, the test streets cannot test many more people than they already do. It is therefore possible that more people have corona among their members, but that it is no longer possible to find all infections.
In the past seven days, the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) registered 155,967 positive tests. That is about 3 percent higher than the total for the week before. That is the lowest ‘growth number’ since October 5. Last Monday, the weekly total was almost 49 percent higher than in the week before.
Deaths
RIVM registered 33 deaths of corona patients last day. For a Monday, that’s the highest number since January 25. RIVM generally reports fewer deaths on Mondays than later in the week. When a corona patient dies during the weekend, this is often reported in the course of Monday. RIVM will then publish this in Tuesday’s figures.
In the past week, RIVM was informed that 355 people have died as a result of the infection. That equates to an average of more than 50 deaths per day. That is the highest level since February 26, about 9 months ago.
