The number of coronavirus infections in the Netherlands will increase again from mid-July. Unfortunately, this is also the case in Nieuwegein. Our editorial team previously informed the residents of Nieuwegein.
In the period July 29 to August 11, 26 infections were detected in Nieuwegein. This is evident from figures from the RIVM and the GGD. This makes Nieuwegein one of the municipalities in the Utrecht region where the number of positively tested people is increasing faster than the average. Most positively tested Nieuwegeiners are in the age category of 20 to 40 years. This is in line with the national and regional figures. Now Deputy Mayor Ellie Eggengoor has come up with a response.
Deputy Mayor Ellie Eggengoor: “Fortunately, we see in Nieuwegein that in general compliance with the corona measures is still going well. But we are very shocked by the increase in the number of infections. To combat further increases, the municipality is intensifying enforcement of the corona measures. Shops and catering establishments are checked more often by our boas for compliance with the rules. And we will also significantly increase communication about the measures. In Nieuwegein we desperately need everyone to stop the increase in the number of infections. The figures are a warning that we must all remain alert and in solidarity. Only together can we get corona under control ”.
