The central depot for vaccines against Covid-19 could be set up at the Bundeswehr location in Quakenbrück. The Bundeswehr confirms a corresponding request.
As the news magazine “Der Spiegel” reports, there are plans to install the central vaccine depot in the Bundeswehr’s medical supplies and repair center. According to the report, the drugs from Quakenbrück are to be distributed nationwide to temporary storage facilities. There was a request from the Federal Ministry of Health as to whether the center in Quakenbrück could do this job, said a spokeswoman for the medical service of the Bundeswehr at the request of NDR in Lower Saxony. However, it has not yet been decided whether it could also be used as a central depot for the vaccines against Covid-19, the spokeswoman said.
“Good reasons for Quakenbrück”
According to the Bundeswehr, the Federal Ministry of Health and the Federal Ministry of Defense still have to discuss the question of the central depot. Regardless of this, local politicians have already said that there are good reasons for the Quakenbrück location. Among other things, the area is guarded and there is sufficient storage capacity, according to local politics. In addition, the Bundeswehr in Quakenbrück has already gained experience in other crisis situations.
