The number of coronavirus infections in the Netherlands is rising from 10 to 18 | NOW

The number of coronavirus infections in the Netherlands has risen to eighteen, reports the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM). Eight new infections were detected on Monday.

Almost all of these people have recently been in northern Italy or have received the virus from a family member who has been there. The RIVM is still investigating the source of the other infections.

All infected people are in isolation. The GGD maps out who they have recently been in contact with. These people are then monitored and must record their temperature twice a day and pass it on to the GGD.

The RIVM does not share where the eight new infected persons live, but leaves this to the local authorities. For example, a person in Loon op Zand, a person in Helmond and a person in Houten were infected with virus, the mayor of Loon op Zand, the local GGD in Helmond and the municipality of Houten reported Monday morning.

Houten patient has no link with previous infections

The patient in Houten has according to the Township no link with previously found patients in the Netherlands. The man was at a trade show in Germany last week. He then went on vacation with his family. Together with his family, he is now in home insulation.

In addition, one of the infected persons was in intensive care at Maasstad Hospital in Rotterdam. The hospital therefore has one as a precaution recording stop set.

The coronavirus was diagnosed on Thursday evening at the first infected person in the Netherlands, a man from Loon op Zand. The same diagnosis was made the following night with a woman in Diemen. Both have recently been to the Italian region of Lombardy. There is no link between these two people.

The COVID-19 virus (coronavirus) in short:

  • The virus spreads mainly through cough and sneeze drops that hang in the air for a short time. Anyone who shows no symptoms is hardly a risk of infection.
  • Someone can infect two to three others on average (less than, for example, measles). However, this figure is falling due to all precautions.
  • The vast majority have mild (flu-like) symptoms.
  • Almost all deaths concern older or already sick people.
