Another 44 people on board the cruise ship Diamond Princess, which is quarantined in Japan, have tested positive for the 2019-nCoV coronavirus, said Japanese Health Minister Katsunobu Kato on Thursday. The number of infected people on the ship therefore rises to 218.

Among the 44 newly infected persons are 43 tourists and one crew member. There are more than three thousand people on the ship. There are also five Dutch people on board.
Japan now wants to remove elderly people who have tested negative for the virus from the ship. They are offered temporary accommodation by the government.
According to Kato, five cruise tourists are currently in the hospital. Four of them are in serious condition and of the fifth the test results still have to come in.
Travelers can leave the ship on February 19. The Diamond Princess has been in quarantine for more than two weeks. Until that time nobody is allowed to leave his or her cabin. However, tourists may occasionally get a breath of fresh air on the outside decks. They must then keep a sufficient distance from each other and wear a mouth cap.
