The newspaper “Domani” has published a video showing the violence of the police in the prison of Santa Maria Capua Vetere

The newspaper Tomorrow has exclusively published a video showing the violence committed in April 2020 by police officers in the prison of Santa Maria Capua Vetere, in the province of Caserta, for which on Monday the carabinieri of Caserta carried out 52 precautionary measures against prison police officers and prison managers involved.

The facts date back to April 6, 2020, when in the “Nile ward” of the prison there was a revolt of inmates following the news of a case of coronavirus positivity in the facility. The revolt ended that same night, but the next day, according to the prosecutor’s office, some agents carried out punitive searches and retaliation.

In the images taken by the surveillance cameras, published by Tomorrow, inmates are seen being beaten in the legs and back with a club, and then kicked, slapped and butted, some of whom are forced to kneel.

The charges against the people involved in the precautionary measures are variously aggravated torture, aggravated ill-treatment, multiple aggravated personal injuries, aggravated forgery, slander, personal aiding and abetting, procedural fraud and misdirection. Among them are Gaetano Manganelli, former commander of the prison, Pasquale Colucci, commander of the translation and pick-up unit, both under house arrest, and Antonio Fullone, administrator of the Campania prisons, for whom the ban from his functions was ordered.
