Microsoft has adopted a very specific strategy for its transition to the new generation of console. The firm wants to offer its Xbox Series X as the most powerful console on the market, but his highest priority remains l’adoption du Xbox Game Pass. For this, Microsoft will continue to offer its games on PC and on the older generation of console, Xbox One. All of this is reflected in the design of the new official Xbox controller.
Indeed, this controller is not so much the official controller for the Xbox Series X as the new official controller from Microsoft for all its services. The firm has also announced that the controller would be compatible with the Xbox One, mobiles and PCs. In short, Microsoft wants to make it the new universal controller. The opposite strategy of the Sony DualSense, thought in association with the PS5 and exclusively for this console (even if the DualSense should be recognized by Windows).
This explains without a doubt why the new Xbox controller has no specific name, and offers few new features: USB-C port, share button, new directional pad and slightly adjusted design. So far, this controller has been unveiled in black, but it could also be offered in a white version, according to a new leak.
A white version for Lockhart?
A user posted a very believable photo of a new Xbox controller in white version. The photo was reportedly taken during a pizza party in the Redmond area, where Microsoft’s headquarters are located. We can therefore see the new controller, recognizable thanks to the share button in the center, and the new directional cross inherited from the controller. Elite Series 2.

If this photo truly shows a white version of the Xbox controller, several hypotheses can be imagined. First, it could be a special version for Microsoft employees. The company is used to offering special versions of the Xbox to its employees who worked on the project, and in 2013 they had just received a white version of the Xbox One, then marketed exclusively in black.
It is also possible that this is the first photo of the official controller that will accompany the Lockhart, the not really mysterious second console in preparation at Microsoft. This model, less powerful than the Xbox Series X, would be currently in testing with Microsoft employees. Its design should be close to the current Xbox One S, with a gray dress making it easier to distinguish it from the One S. It would therefore make sense for its official controller to be white.
Anticipated marketing
Still concerning the official Xbox controller, journalist Jez Corden indicates that the new controllers could be marketed even before the release of the next consoles. This is because the old model would simply no longer be produced, and stocks could therefore be gradually replaced by the new design. This model could therefore simply be supplied with future Xbox One S.
