The new Ikšķile skate park is open to visitors

From July 1, Ikšķile skate park is open to the public, however, the municipality calls for compliance with all internal regulations and precautions. This is the largest outdoor monolithic skate park in the Baltics, and its official opening event is planned within the sports and entertainment festival “IKfest 2020” on July 25.

The event includes the grand opening of the skate park, during which the skate park will be instructed and various trick demonstrations are planned, as well as the streetball competition stage “Ikšķiles rags”, family active recreation event “Mazaistiprinieks” and Ikšķile district youth day. At the end of the event, a free concert is planned, informs Inga Šulca, a public relations specialist of Ikšķile municipality.

As previously reported, in 2019 the old Ikšķile skate park, which was built in 2013, was dismantled. In 2019, the municipality received support for the project “Skate Park in Ikšķile to be!” implementation. The project is implemented in the Latvian Rural Development Program 2014–2020 measure “Support for LEADER local development” sub-measure “Implementation of activities in accordance with the community-led local development strategy” with European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) funding and Ikšķile municipality funding. The amount of eligible costs within the project is 10,000 euros, of which 90% is EAFRD funding and 10% or 1,000 euros is municipal funding. The aim of the project is to develop leisure opportunities and popularize the active lifestyle of the residents of the region.
