Here we are talking about the fact that there is a completely different, very popular segment – people who deliver millions of parcels every day. Vans are best suited for this, and GM is currently working on the electric sample.
For quite some time now, we have been observing how civilian electric cars are trying to become commercially successful. Due to environmental requirements, which are tightened every year, manufacturers will have to create electric cars, which, unfortunately, do not pay off. The problem is that car manufacturers have to deal with the fact that adequate sales are not guaranteed, as well as whether the costs of research and development in general will be repelled. But it’s worthwhile to understand that the creation of electric vehicles is, in principle, not unprofitable or deadly for industry.
It is worthwhile to understand that commercial models are not civilian, and there is no right to any errors of this kind. You can’t just create a model that is intended for use by different corporations, which will not be ordered. It should be understood that buyers who are willing to buy a rather expensive electric van for trips are generally not enough for an adequate payback.
Because of this, a trend has recently appeared on large electric vehicles designed specifically for the commercial corporate segment. Of the latest such deals, it’s worth recalling the $ 4 billion deal between Amazon and Rivian to deliver Prime vans. Other large corporations such as Walmart, Pepsi and others conclude such contracts.
It is worth noting that this company also has a contract with Ford, which is developing an electric Ford Transit. It is also worth noting another rather rapidly developing player in this market – the company Arrival, which now works with Hyundai. It was at this point that GM connected and the new electric Chevrolet should hit the market in a year.
