The National Council of the BNG Approves Candidacies for General Elections: Néstor Rego Expected to Lead

The National Council of the BNG will approve the lists for the general elections on Friday

The National Council of the BNG will approve at its meeting next Friday the candidacies for the general elections on July 23. It is taken for granted that Néstor Rego will be head of the Congress list for A Coruña. As this newspaper has learned, in a recent meeting to assess the work carried out by the nationalist deputy in Madrid in the last four years, the national spokesperson for the formation, Ana Ponton, described Rego’s work as “excellent” and supported its continuity in the Chamber, although the decision corresponds to the militancy, which held the corresponding assemblies these days to draw up the lists.

The objective of the BNG facing the general elections of 23-J is to achieve a “strong” parliamentary groupwhataccording to the nationalists, would have a double function: “defend the interests of Galicia” and add votes to “continue making progress policies in favor of the social majorities.” The Bloc recognizes that this is a very “ambitious” objective, but they believe that it is not “impossible.” And they insist that at this moment They are the “alternative” so that Galicia “counts” and can advance rights and freedoms.

Regarding the panorama left by the municipal elections in Galicia, the BNG hopes to reach 40 mayoraltys in the constitution of local corporations scheduled for next Saturday the 17th. Block sources indicate that They do not foresee “problems” in the town councils where they need the support of the socialists to take over the baton of command.

From the party they assure that the Block is in a “magnificent” moment and that it is a “on the rise” political force, which will be presented to the next regional elections with the message that it is “the real alternative to the PP.”

Last 28-M, the nationalists won 54,000 votes compared to the municipal elections of 2019, which meant 29.6% more councilors, reaching 134. “We will govern Pontevedra and Santiago and we will gain representation in Vigo, A Coruña and Ferrol,” they say from the nationalist formation. “Whatever time it is, Ana Pontón will be in a position to become the first president of Galicia and she will have a free hand to defend the interests of the country,” they say from the Bloc.
