The government formalizes the name Highway Jakarta-Cikampek (Japek) II Fly to the MBZ Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Toll Road. The inauguration of the name was carried out this morning, Monday (12/4) by the Minister of State Secretary Pratikno and Minister of PUPR Basuki Hadimuljono.
“This morning, starting from this morning the PUPR Minister and I on behalf of the president officially changed the name of the elevated Jakarta-Cikampek II Toll Road to the MBZ Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed flyover,” he said in a virtual inauguration.
He said diplomatic relations between Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) had been going on for more than 45 years since 1976. The relationship between the two countries is getting closer in the social, cultural and economic fields.
Especially in the economic sector, the UAE is one of the largest investors in Indonesia both in infrastructure development and other financial support.
“The last large volume of support is to the Indonesia Investment Authority (INA), the Sovereign Wealth Fund Indonesia institution that was formed some time ago,” he said.
On the same occasion, Director General of Highways, Hedy Rahadian, said that the toll road has a length of 36.4 km. The construction began in early 2017, and the operation was inaugurated by President Joko Widodo on 12 December 2019.
Meanwhile, the traffic density on this route is 200 thousand vehicles per day. Thus, this toll road is the lifeblood of the Indonesian economy and is located in an industrial and residential area east of Jakarta.
“The presence of this flyover has increased road capacity as well as separating long-distance and short-distance vehicles and is a solution in reducing congestion from Jakarta to Cikampek and vice versa,” he said.
The purpose of this toll road construction is to separate the Jakarta-Bekasi-Cikarang short-distance commuter movement (collector / existing lane) from long-distance movement to Cirebon, Bandung, Semarang, and Surabaya (express / elevated lanes), especially class I non-buses.
The construction of the Japek Layang Toll Road was carried out by the contractor PT Waskita Karya (Persero) Tbk together with PT Acset Indonusa Tbk (Joint Operation). The concession is carried out by the Toll Road Business Entity (BUJT) PT Jasamarga Jalanlayang Cikampek (JJC) which is a subsidiary of PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk with an investment value of IDR 16.2 trillion.
