The Mystery of Hell’s Well in Yemen, Believed to Threaten Life on Earth

SANAA – Scientists are still researching the condition Barhout’s well in eastern Yemen which is known as the Well of Hell because of the many mysteries that surround it and make the people afraid. Even so scary, residents are reluctant to talk about the well because it could threaten life on Earth.

The well is closer to Yemen’s border with Oman which is only 800 miles than to the Yemeni capital, Sanaa which is 1,300 kilometers away. The giant hole in the desert of Al-Mahra province is 30 meters wide and is estimated to be between 100-250 meters deep.

Local people believe that the well was made as a prison for demons. This is because local residents smell a very foul smell from the well.

The Director General of the Geological Survey and the Mahra Mineral Resources Authority, Salah Babhair said that: well it is very deep and mysterious. “It’s very deep—we’ve never reached the bottom of this well, because there’s so little oxygen and no ventilation,” he was quoted as saying Phys.Org.

Babhair claimed to have mobilized researchers by entering well that. Only about 50-60 meters deep, they saw strange things and smelled a foul smell.

Videographers who tried to take pictures of the inside of the well also found it difficult. Because many local superstitions say that objects near the hole can be sucked into it. “These places need more study, research and investigation,” he said.

For centuries, mystical stories have circulated about the fitnah, supernatural figures known as jinn who lived in the well.

Many locals refuse to visit the big hole or even talk about it for fear of bad luck. Because according to legend, the hole could threaten life on Earth itself.
