A psychologist’s point of view: They don’t have the courage to let go of the bond
Early in this relationship was a twenty-four-year-old artist, Dagmar, who was actively interested in and pursued by Elder Felix. Felix, even when living with a new woman, could not divorce, nor could Dada. Neither of them found the courage to leave the bond that united them. The basic theme for Felix would be: what in me pushes me into the arms of other women? And the argument for Dada: how to work towards a sense of self-worth and wholeness. Currently, both are already in their old age, and probably both feel that they have an emotional bond with each other other than addiction, that they know their habits and bad habits, that they can tolerate each other, which is why they can go on vacation together. We may wish they were able to forgive each other for the pain they have caused and lean into the fragile, loving bond that unites them.
