In sorrow
The murder of Murphy has shocked the nation. Memorial ceremonies have been held in Dublin, Belfast, London and New York, with tens of thousands of participants.
Like the murder of Sarah Everard in the UK last year, the debate over women’s safety has resurfaced.
Murphy is described as a loving and beautiful person.
Ashling was so much more than a girlfriend. She was my soulmate. She’s my soulmate, she always will be. She’s the big love of my life, says Murphy’s girlfriend.
The murder has also created strong reactions on social media.
– I usually run along the same channel as Ashling Muprhy did. I feel very privileged that I was able to complete my run today, something she will never have the opportunity to do. I thought about her the whole trip, writes a cohabitant on Twitter.
