The municipality and institutions of Balvu region will switch to a four-day work week

Their working hours from May 15 to December 31 will be reduced by 20% and Friday will be a holiday.

Teachers will not be affected by this reduction and will still have a 40-hour work week.

Employees of long-term social care and social rehabilitation institutions, educational program implementation staff of kindergartens and educational institutions, municipal agency “SAN-TEX” of Balvu region and municipal police will also continue to work for a full working week.

On the other hand, in the period from May 15 to June 1 and from September 1 to December 31, exceptions are provided for the technical staff of educational institutions, the Children and Youth Center, the Support Center for Award-inclusive Education, as well as the employees of parish administrations who provide school transportation.

Seven deputies voted for this decision – deputies elected from the list of the Latgale party Sergejs Maksimovs, Anita Kokoreviča, Ruta Cibule, Marija Duļbinska and Imants Slišāns and Sandra Kapteine ​​and Egon Salmanis elected from the list of the Latvian Farmers’ Union. Aldis Bukšs (JKP) voted against, while three abstained – Aija Mežale (NA/TB/LNNK), Svetlana Pavlovska (Saskaņa) and Jānis Trupovnieks (LZP). At the time of the vote, four of the 15 members of the municipality did not participate.

As TVNET has already reported, during the process of creating the budget of Balvu county, the head of the municipality Maksimovs informed the deputies that there is a 4.8 million euro “hole” in the budget. In the finance committee, when the deputies discussed where to take the missing funds in the budget, it was decided to introduce a four-day work week in the municipality.
