Pastry masters will compete this Sunday in the traditional Pastry Festival, which is being organized for the third year in a row by the town hall of the village of Markovo, municipality “Rodopi”, together with the National Community Center “Aleko Konstantinov-1907”. It is competitive in nature and its regulations are extremely liberal, as people of all ages and from all corners of Bulgaria can participate in it without restrictions. Any lover of traditional Bulgarian pastry can choose one of the three categories to participate – salty pie, sweet or non-traditional pie. “On Sunday, we hope to try the less and less prepared zelnik, patatnik and luchnik, which our ancestors grew up with,” commented the mayor of the village, Desislava Terzieva.
The pies will be judged by a jury of professionals and connoisseurs. Applications for participation will be accepted until Friday – May 10 inclusive. in the community center of the village of Markovo (including by phone). Freshly baked pies will be accepted on the day of the Festival (Sunday – May 12) from 10.00 to 12.00, after which they will be handed over to the competent judging panel. The prizes in the three categories are provided by Park Hotel Markovo. “Come together to preserve Bulgarian traditions and taste”invite the organizers from the Markovo City Hall and the “Aleko Konstantinov – 1907” Primary School.
The tasting of the pies will take place against the background of the fifth edition of the folklore festival “On the Megdana, for the Belt”. His program starts at 11:00 a.m. on the square in front of the community center. Last year, the dance forum gathered over 250 people – singers and dancers from community centers and clubs from different municipalities, who created a mood for the large audience with their incredible performances of songs, dances and people from authentic Bulgarian folklore. The organizers promise an even larger participation of groups this year as well.
