A small business which brought in between 36,000 and 48,000 euros for the person concerned, report our colleagues from Mayotte Weekly who attended the criminal trial of the defendant and that of his two accomplices: a woman responsible for bringing down applicants in an irregular situation and a man who was responsible for buying real identity cards before reselling them as they were.
The hearing brought to light the phenomenon according to which certain inhabitants of Mayotte sell their identity document for a few euros. The card is then resold two or three times the purchased price to someone else. Only obligation, the physical resemblance between the buyer and the seller’s photo.
The trafficking of the 31-year-old police officer who “had trouble repaying his loans”, lasted for a year. The scheme was reportedly spotted on the social network Snapchat.
