The Most Worrying Symptoms of the Delta Variant of Covid-19

But what is clear is that Covid is still potentially serious or fatal. This is the Delta symptom that worries doctors the most, as reported by the Eat This, Not That page, Friday (27/8).

Difficulty breathing or chest pain

Symptoms of Covid 19 can vary, and most are not serious. However, some symptoms require immediate medical attention. “Seek help immediately if you have difficulty breathing or chest pain,” says Dr. Gwen Murphy, Ph.D., MPH, director of epidemiology for Let’sGetChecked.

No Symptoms

Since the start of the pandemic, one of the most frustrating aspects of Covid-19 for health workers has been that it can be spread by people who have no symptoms. Delta can be transmitted by vaccinated people who may not even know they are infected.

“People who are vaccinated do transmit it, and to what extent is unclear, but there’s no doubt they do,” said Dr. Anthony Fauci, President Biden’s chief medical adviser.

According to him, people who are vaccinated, even when they are asymptomatic, can transmit the virus. This is why the CDC revised its mask guidelines to recommend that everyone wear a mask indoors in public places.

Confusion or inability to wake up

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in addition to difficulty breathing or chest pain, if you or someone you know with Covid experiences new confusion or an inability to get up or stay awake, you should seek emergency medical care immediately. These symptoms may indicate that Covid has caused inflammation in the brain.

Long term symptoms

“The SARS-CoV-2 virus can attack different parts of our body, and unfortunately some infections cause a long-term illness known as long-term Covid,” said Murphy.

For these people, symptoms can last for weeks or months and can affect most, if not all, body systems, including heart, lung, kidney, skin, and brain function.

“Covid long is another reason for all of us to be vaccinated and to encourage our friends and family to do the same.”

Not everyone can get the Covid-19 vaccination, either because of age or medical conditions. Recent studies mention the risks that lurk those who have not received the vaccine.

Meanwhile, research initiated by the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that people who are not vaccinated are 29 times more likely to be hospitalized if infected with Covid-19.

The CDC findings also reveal that a person is five times more likely to be infected Covid-19 if not vaccinated. Both risks were compared with other patients who had received full vaccination.

The results were published in an academic journal Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report from the CDC. The study reviewed data on 43,127 cases in Los Angeles County over the period May 1 to July 25, 2021.

“This data is a reminder that if you haven’t been vaccinated, you are among those most at risk,” CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said at a White House briefing Tuesday.

During the study period, the percentage of adults fully vaccinated in LA County jumped from 27 percent to 51 percent. On Monday (23/8), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has given full approval for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

The US government hopes it will encourage people who are still skeptical about the safety of the vaccine to finally get the shot. As of Tuesday (24/8), 61 percent of Americans have received at least one dose of the vaccine.

As many as 52 percent of Americans are fully vaccinated. Meanwhile, the number of cases, death rates, and hospitalizations due to Covid-19 continues to increase back to the level of the early months of the pandemic due to the delta variant.

In his briefing, Walensky warned that people who have been partially or fully vaccinated may still be infected with Covid-19. However, the odds are lower than for people who have not been vaccinated.

The condition after being infected was observed to be much lighter. With government approval of the vaccine and Walensky’s directive, the CDC itself does not require its employees to be vaccinated.
