Inside the body man be found hormones which is useful for controlling almost all functions of the organs of the body. Starting from growth, metabolism, reproduction to carrying out bodily functions.

Quoted from Middle School Complete Natural Science Digest Book, Hormones are chemical substances produced by endocrine glands (clogged glands).

As chemical messengers, hormones carry out their duties through two types of communication, namely between two endocrine glands and between endocrine glands and body organs. Both are equally important for the human body.

The interaction between the two hormones is also known as the endocrine system which is very influential in every process in the human body.

Types and Functions of Hormones in Humans

Humans have several types of hormones with different functions. The following types of human hormones and their functions.

1. Growth hormone

Growth hormone is produced by the pituitary gland in the brain. This hormone has a function to encourage the growth process of children and adolescents, while adults use this hormone to maintain the metabolic system.

Lack of this hormone can cause babies to be stunted or grow less normally. When excessive, children can experience gigantism or growth that is too high from normal.

2. Hormon tiroid

The function of thyroid hormone in humans is to regulate the body’s metabolism. Not only that, the thyroid also regulates the use of fats and carbohydrates and regulates heart rate and body temperature.

Disorders due to the thyroid gland will cause thyroid disease, such as hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism. In addition, other disorders due to the thyroid gland can be caused by autoimmune, viral or bacterial infections, and side effects of certain drugs.

3. The hormone cortisol

The hormone cortisol functions to control stress because it will only be released by the body in a state of stress.

In addition, the function of the hormone cortisol can also be a breakdown of food reserves in the body so that it can support the metabolic process to run more smoothly.

Because our bodies need it as a source of energy, this hormone will increase blood sugar, fat and amino acid levels in the blood.

4. Reproductive hormones

As the name implies, reproductive hormones are very influential in sexual function and fertility. There are two types of hormones in reproduction, namely testosterone (male) and estrogen and progesterone (female).

The hormone testosterone is a male sex hormone that is produced directly by the testes which will bring out the characteristics of the male body during puberty. In addition, this hormone also plays a role in the process of sperm formation.

Meanwhile, the hormone estrogen produced by the ovaries (ovaries) plays a role in showing a woman’s physical changes during puberty and controlling the menstrual cycle in women.

Apart from estrogen, other female hormones, such as progesterone, function to prepare the lining of the uterus (endometrium) during pregnancy.

5. Insulin hormone

The insulin hormone functions to lower blood sugar levels, free fatty acids, and amino acids. Insulin will use sugar as a source of energy so that the body can carry out activities properly.

But there are things to note, low or excessive insulin levels are both not good for the health of the body.

6. Parathyroid hormone

Functioning as a regulator of calcium levels in the blood, parathyroid hormone also functions in the process of blood clotting and muscle contraction.

When calcium is low, parathyroid hormone will increase the mineral calcium from the bones and also absorb minerals into the intestines and kidneys.

7. Hormon aldosteron

Aldosterone hormone is a hormone produced by the adrenal glands. This hormone has an important role in maintaining the balance of the body.

The hormone aldosterone is released when sodium levels in the blood are reduced and blood potassium levels are higher.

This is an explanation of the types and functions of hormones in humans. To be able to function properly, you need to maintain a balance of hormones in the body. One way is to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
