I’ve been making music for a long time. I wanted to be like Joni Mitchell. My first degrees are in piano music, opera. But I don’t have an operatic voice, I have more popular voice. I went to study at the Yale School of Drama.
The impulse to do theater comes from the fact that I am interested in people in all their diversity. I enjoy reading books about people. What do they do and why do they do it? I love watching people.
You worked with Robert De Niro and Clint Eastwood as directors. Would you also collaborate with Latvian directors?
Yes, but I should read the script first. It remains to be seen what the level is.
If we talk about roles, do you have to be quite demanding?
Oh yes, first I have to carefully read the text, the script. I have to be sure I can make a contribution. Otherwise it won’t work. It must match the heart. If they don’t respond, it won’t be nice.
Do you still have contact with Latvia?
Yes, I was in Latvia five years ago.
We have relatives in Riga, Kuldīga and Liepāja. I have some actress friends: Elita Kļaviņa, Ieva Pļavniece, Ieva Florence and Oskars Vīksne. I also know Inesi Galanti, I have friends in Latvia.
