Well over 100 million euros are now being paid for the absolute top stars on the soccer transfer market. In particular, Paris Saint-Germain and FC Barcelona are digging deep into their pockets for players. In four of the five most expensive transfers in history, the two top teams from France and Spain were involved.
For a long time, a sum of 100 million euros was the magic limit. For years, Cristiano Ronaldo was the most expensive player in the world with 94 million euros. But that changed suddenly in the past five years.
Not every deal was particularly successful. Manchester United in particular had to admit after years that they had mistakenly given up a jewel from their youth and later paid a lot of money for this mistake.
